The Time Traveler project is a comprehensive informal education program that aims to introduce a broad audience to the history of Hungarian Jewry in depth through the heritage of the historic Jewish quarter of Pest. The project consists of several components that can be used together or independently, both inside and outside the classroom. Its primary target group is students in grades 9–12.
The educational content is based on a social history curriculum that can be downloaded free of charge from the Time Traveler website under the “Social History” (Társadalomtörténet) section. This material provides an overview of the history of the old Jewish quarter of Pest between 1830 and 1989, divided into four historical periods.
This is complemented by an online interactive game, also available on the Time Traveler website, which can be played independently.
Our theatrical role-playing game Boxes, developed primarily for school classes, focuses on the Horthy era.
Our urban game will also soon be available again: a group-based, interactive city walk and exploration set in Budapest’s historic Jewish quarter between 1920 and 1944.
In 2026, we will continue to utilize the programs developed in previous years: our theatrical role-playing game, Boxes, and the related soundwalk. We will also continue to develop the curriculum and we will develop a theatrical role-playing game and a soundwalk covering the period between 1945 and 1989.
